Count Dracula and His Vampire Brides (AKA Satanic Rites of Dracula) Poster!

satanicritesdrac_us_adams.jpg

Here's the US poster for "Count Dracula and His Vampire Brides," better known to the rest of the world as "Satanic Rites of Dracula!" I guess the US distributor didn't feel comfortable with the "Satanic" part of the title?

Remco Mini-Monster Dracula!

80s_remcominis2

With the success of Kenner's Star Wars action figure line, action figures were changed forever, and Remco responded with their Mini-Monsters line! Check out those capes to see how faithfully they copied Kenner's Star Wars style!

Dracula AD 1972 Still!

draculaad72_still1.jpg

The Count doesn't appear too happy in this still, does he? Maybe he found out a group of meddling kids moved in next door, with their rock and roll music and everything...

Dracula, Wolfman and Frankenstein Book and Record!

dracwolffrank_power.JPG

Here's a really neat item, especially if you're a monster fan AND a comic book fan, as I am! Power Records (a division of Peter Pan Records) produced this 33 1/3 RPM book and record set in the 1970s, and the book's art (as well as the cover art) was done by Neal Adams, perhaps best known for his work on The X-Men, Green Lantern/Green Arrow, The Avengers, Superman, and -- his best known work, I'm sure -- Batman, among many other characters. While the story itself isn't all that clever (descendant of Dr. Frankenstein and his fiancee, who's a werewolf, encounter Count Dracula, who forces Frankenstein to build him a monster slave, with the expected results), the art is great! But if you really, really want to hear it (it's never been released on CD), you can listen to it here! This site, the Power Records Blog, also has scans of the story pages.

Merry Christmas! Here's a lobby card for Blood of Dracula!

Stick N Lift Monsters!

monster_sticknliftcolorform.jpg

Here's a pretty cool toy... like the old Colorforms stuff, but even better, if you ask me! Look at all the classic Universal monsters there - including, of course, Count Dracula!

Groovie Goolies "Drac" Costume!

goolies_draccostume

I hope I don't offend anyone's sensibilities with this post! If you're one of the uninitiated, the Groovie Goolies was an animated series produced by Filmation, a spin-off of their Sabrina, The Teenage Witch series (itself a spin-off of their Archie cartoons). Try to imagine someone combining the Munsters and the Addams Family with Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In, plus a bubble gum rock number in each episode!

The entire series is available on DVD... you can order it from this link:

Dracula Vs. Frankenstein Poster!

dracvsfrank.JPG

Man, this is one of those movie posters that makes me think this movie is either completely awful and unwatchable... or it's so bad that it is watchable and entertaining just because it's so bad!

I've a feeling the former is more likely the case, though.

Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein Lobby Card!

acmeetfrank_lc4.jpg

Here's one of those rare photos in my collection that's large enough that you could probably print out a decent-quality image on 8 1/2 x 11 paper if you wanted to add it to your wall decor!

Dracula's Daughter Poster!

draculasdaughter_poster2.jpg

This is one of those movies I haven't seen (heck, I can say the same thing about almost all the Hammer Draculas), but I have read a storybook version of the movie (you can look for that to show up on one of my other blogs, Random Acts of Geekery, in the future)!

Dracula AD 1972 Italian Poster!

draculaad72_italian.jpg

Wow, this Italian poster for Dracula A.D. 1972 may be a bit on the garish side... but you know what? I like it!

Scars of Dracula French Poster!

scarsofdracula_frposter.jpg

Wow, I'm really hitting the French stuff heavy these days, aren't I? I have to admit, I don't care for this poster as much as yesterday's poster.

Horror of Dracula French Poster!

horrorofdracula_french.JPG

Compare this to the Horror of Dracula French Pressbook... kind of an interesting contrast, isn't it? I love the use of blue on this poster!

Scars of Dracula Yugoslavia Poster!

Despite the primitiveness of the painting, there's something uniquely appealing about this poster for Scars of Dracula!

Son of Dracula Still!

sonofdrac_still07.JPG

Today's image is this still from Son of Dracula, with Lon Chaney, Jr. potraying the Count (and not Dracula's son, despite what the title of the movie is!).

Annotated Dracula Ad from Heroes World Catalog #1!

heroesworld1_50

Something different this time around... it's a page from Heroes World Catalog #1 featuring the book, "The Annotated Dracula." The Heroes World Catalog primarily featured super-hero items, but a number of monster things found their way into it, too! Heroes World's catalog was published comic book-style, and their catalogs are collectors' items these days!

Here's a close-up of the Dracula section:

Monster Times "Dracula AD 1972" Cover!

monstertimes18p.JPG

As I've written on my other blogs, the Monster Times was a newspaper-styled monster magazine that didn't last nearly long enough! Expect to see a couple more Monster Times covers to show up here!

Universal Monster PVCs!

I believe these were manufactured by a company called "Comics Spain."

Dell Dracula Movie Classic issue!

movieclassic231.jpg

Dell Comics had a series called "Movie Classics" that ran from the 1950s through the 1960s, and each issue adapted (usually) a then-current movie... but they did end up doing some of the classic Universal Monster movies, as witness above!

Unfortunately, with the success of this issue, plus the popularlity of superheroes, someone at Dell had the bright ideal to turn Dracula into a superhero!

AHI Monster Figures!

monster_ahimonsters

Here's a set of four AHI World's Greatest Super-Monsters action figures... well, three plus an extra Dracula, anyway! AHI, or Azrak Hamway International, was best known in the 1970s for their lines of "rack toys," usually very cheap things like Batmobiles, paratrooper Batman, Spider-Man, Planet of the Apes and more... all kinds of stuff (check out the 1979 AHI Catalog on the Plaid Stallions website to learn more about AHI). They also produced a line of 8" action figures to compete with Mego's more successful line! And unlike Mego's "Mad Monsters," AHI actually licensed the Universal Monsters! OK, so you could only tell that by looking at the Frankenstein Monster figure...

"Dinner with Drac" Peter Pan Record!

dinnerwithdrac_record2

I'm sure this isn't a reissue of the original, but a new (at the time) recording. Peter Pan Records was well-known for producing seasonal records for the kids... I remember seeing their Monster Mash 45 as well, and you can be sure that wasn't by Bobby "Boris" Pickett!

Friday, December 5, 2008

Remco Dracula Action Figure!

monster_remcodrac

This was part of a line of classic Universal monster action figures, with glow-in-the-dark heads and hands! Plus, when you pressed a button on the back, the arms would "clutch" at you. A "Monsterizer" accessory was available that would apparently "charge up" the glow-in-the-dark features.

House of Frankenstein Title Card!

houseoffrank_lc1.JPG

I've always regretted that this movie didn't truly feature Dracula alongside the Wolf Man and the Frankenstein Monster... it could've been really cool! As it is, Dracula's portion feels like a separate movie all together!

Dracula (and other Monster) Maniyack Iron-On Transfers!

I direct your attention to the upper-right corner of this photo... oh, heck, here's a close-up of the Dracula portion, cropped out:

Cool stuff, eh?

Welcome to Dracula's Crypt of Collectibles!

dracula09

Dracula's Crypt of Collectibles is the latest of the "Jon K Family of Blogs"... which include Random Acts of Geekery, The Give-A-Show Blog, and Go-Go Godzilla, the latter of which just started November 1st!

Like the Godzilla Blog, this blog will bring you, every day of the week, a photo of something related to Dracula... it could be a poster, still, or lobby card from any of the Dracula movies (at least, up through the mid-70s, anyway), or it could be some other kind of Dracula collectible, like toys!

I chose the above photo, obviously, because I used it in the header! It's a still from Dracula, starring Bela Lugosi!
